In A Spoon Deficit

In a spoon deficit these days....
  • worked six days out of the seven--full days
  • heavy work
  • crabby customers
  • canoing on grand river-- worth it, but no recovery time
Saw the new Indiana Jones movie tonight. It was fun. A buddy came to visit, bbqed steak for me and we went to the movie. However, did not help with the spoon deficit.

Baked brownies today and did two loads of laundry. My bedroom is full the fresh scent of line-dried laundry. Yummy.

Only working one and a half days this week, so hopefully will be recharged by the end of the week. We'll see.

Will write more when my cutlery drawer is full again :)

When the Universe Laughs....

I think the universe is laughing at me.

Sick person uses her lunch break to go to Tim Horton's and get a big, hot drink. Sick person then gets caught in a torrential downpour on her way back to work. Soaked to the skin, sick person then re-enters the air conditioned store and finishes her lunch break in the cold staff room. Then the sun comes out.

Icky Ich

I might have been sick this past week, but my new tropical fish were even sicker. I lost six out of ten fish while I was sick because I was too sick to get to the pet store and get anything to help them. A case of ich spread through the tank and at its peak I was losing two fish a day. I even froze one to death because it was too painful watching him die.... very slow and agonizing death, floating to the top of the tank, rolling over and over, sinking a bit, fighting back up to the top, gasping for air....

At least my flu wasn't deadly.

And after 7 to 10 days of no new ich I will be able to get some new fish and re-stock. Fortunately the pet store had a two week guarantee on their fish, so I froze them as they died and then took them back to the store yesterday. After being frozen and then spending four hours in my car while I was at work, they truly were icky ichy fish. New fish next week!

You know you're really sick when...

  • you call your mom for her birthday and you forget to actually say "Happy Birthday"
  • your mom's birthday present and card are still at the store
  • the cat has given up trying to get you out of bed in the morning
  • you've packed your green bin full of tissues-- twice
  • your fish are in bad shape because you haven't been able to change their water
  • physical activity consists solely of moving between laying in bed and laying on the living room floor (don't have a sofa)
  • you're bored with cable but keep watching anyway because your brain is too numb to change the channel
  • your only outings in the past week have been to the doctor and the drugstore
  • you're starting to wonder if you're the only human being left on the planet because you haven't seen or talked to anyone for ages
  • your cat is annoyed because you won't leave the house for eight hours so she can have the place to herself

Sick ... Sixth?

Time is meaningless to me right now. I feel like I have lost an entire week-- as far as my brain is concerned, it is still June 3rd. That's the last day I really remember anything about. Since then, my life has been sleep a little, watch tv, sleep a little, try to read, sleep a little, listen to the radio, sleep a little, lie awake.... Is it really the 6th of June already? Arggh! I've missed all but one of my shifts at work this week because of this sinus/ear infection. I want to have an appetite again. I want to enjoy the hot weather and sit outside on the deck with the cat. But it takes soooo much energy to move...

On The Death of a Favourite Tree

Its bark was worn smooth from the years of passing cows rubbing against it. It's roots were bare and smooth from the years of tramping hooves. Its beautiful form stood out against the changing sky and the wind whispered through its cone-laden upper branches. That is why I loved this tree. But trees do not last forever and it has fallen over in the wind. I will miss this sentinel on the landscape.
